I have no idea where to begin here, as there has been a lot happening in my world, and there continues to be a lot happening. It feels like the equivalent of emotional flooding. I mean that in a good way. So where do I begin?
Well, I have a new album coming out very soon. It’s called “Private Hospital”. It is the last installation of the “Reggae Film Star” pentalogy”, Starting with “Reggae Film Star”, “Sometimes You Hurt The Ones You Hate”, Motorcycle Madness”, “Passing The Giraffes”, and now “Private Hospital”. I am very proud of these albums, but I must say, I’m mostly proud of “Private Hospital”. It’s a very different album for me, for reasons that are both obvious and not obvious when you hear it.
One thing that will be different this time around is that this will be my first album release in book form. That’s right, I am moving on from vinyl records, compact discs, and cassettes. Why? There is a myriad of reasons, but environmental being at the top of my list. I won’t go on and on and bore you with the details here. You can look up the environmental impacts of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and how many vinyl LP’s and compact discs end up in landfills every year yourself. I personally no longer want to be a part of it. In my opinion, there are more constructive, fun, and environmentally conscious ways to tangibly release music into the world.
Now, some information about the physical release of “Private Hospital”. Inside of the book itself, you will find a postcard (designed by me). On the back of that postcard will be a download code. Enter the code into your computer or smartphone, and boom! - you will have the new album. Included with the “Private Hospital” physical release only, will be an additional bonus album. This album will include the demos written for the album and will not be available on any streaming platforms.
So, what’s inside the book? Along with the new album, you will find a curated selection of photos taken from my personal collection of found photography, as well as hand typed lyrics. Some of the greatest photos I have ever seen came from normal everyday people like you and me who documented their lives. Sadly, many of these photographs are never seen, which I find very unfortunate. Utilizing these photos in not only this new book, but also in future books, will continue to be my personal way of paying tribute to the countless amateur photographers who have inspired my writing and ignited my imagination.
Preorders for “Private Hospital” will be announced soon.
I am going on tour this Fall! During “All Are Welcome In: A Maraqopa Retrospective”, I will be performing selections from the Maraqopa trilogy (“Maraqopa”, Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son”, “Visions of Us On the Land”)
