I debated back and forth in my mind a few times as to whether or not I would create a newsletter. After pulling my music (that is everything within my legal right) from all streaming services, all while becoming so incredibly disinterested and disillusioned by social media, I figured it was time.
So with the help of a friend, I created a website that I felt best reflects who I am. Simple. A place where one can view tour dates, get in touch with me, and lastly, purchase music directly from me. My desire was to cut out the middle man as much as I possibly could. And so, I did.
I started my own record label, said goodbye to music distribution, music management, social media, and whatever else goes along with this current way of doing things. It just wasn’t me. It is my belief that everything I do must reflect who I am, not just as an artist and musician, but also as me the person. Nobody has to like it.
In fact, most will read this, and think that I have completely lost my mind. I can assure you that I have not. In fact, in my 30 years of doing this, I am the happiest that I have ever been. I don’t believe in success in the sense of fame, or even recognition. I believe that true success is being happy. Being aware, and knowing that every waking moment of your life, you are content. That you are doing the very thing that brings you joy. That is success. And I can tell you, it’s priceless.
I am overjoyed with being alive. With having this opportunity to talk with you here. To write songs. To share. My friends, there is so much that I want to do. Especially with recording, and releasing music. As much as I possibly can. And yes, there will be touring. How often, and where is frankly hard to say at this moment. But rest assured that there will be live performances.
I want to thank you for being here. I will be sure to check in as often as I can. With gratitude and love,
- Damien
